Welcome to the
Rhode Island Mobile Sportfishermen Website!

The Rhode Island Mobile Sportfishermen, or RIMS, fishing club was founded in 1958 by  a group of fisherman that frequented East Beach and the Charlestown, Rhode Island areas. As a family oriented club, RIMS was organized with a mission dedicated to the preservation and conservation of our coastal resources, as well as maintaining public beach access. Today, RIMS continues its stance on public beach access, preservation & conservation, and the protection of our fisheries. Visit our Mission page for a more thorough and detailed explanation of our history and mission.

Message from the President

Obviously the past year has shown us as a club and as individuals how fragile our beach access rights are, even as property owners. This is not our problem alone. Beach access is at risk all over the country. In order to preserve these rights it is important to stay informed of current issues and legislation that are trying to limit those rights. The following link is to a national grassroots organization fighting to protect these rights that is very informative and allows you make a difference.

Some great news from the State of New York.

A4112, a bill to prohibit commercial fishing for striped bass in the Hudson River - effectively making it a game fish there - has already passed the Assembly. S4948, the Senate version of this bill, is coming up for a hearing before the Environmental Conservation Committee on Feb. 23. The bill is sponsored by Senator Antoine M. Thompson, the Chairman of the committee. The Hudson is the second largest spawning ground for striped bass; keeping it free from the pressures of commercial gill netting is vital to the health of the striper population. We all need to get behind this bill now to make sure it takes effect.  Please follow link for more info...

Professional Fishing Rod Building Class

Ever wanted to build your own fishing rods but didn’t want to buy the equipment parts, rely on a DVD or book for instructions and not be able to make a functional fishing rod? How about making a Special fishing rod for a new fisherman, or a Grandchild’s First Fishing Rod made by his or her Grandfather?

Well, On April 24 & 25 Mud Hole Custom Tackle of Oviedo, FL is sponsoring The Introduction to Rod Building class in Windsor Locks, CT at the Doubletree hotel for $149.00.

You actually will build a rod with the help of a professional rod builder, receive the tools for future projects, get all of the instructions that you need. It will dry overnight and on Day two you will learn some advanced techniques. And bring home your fishing rod and all of the tools to be able to start your new hobby and who knows maybe the start of a new career.

Click on the link to see the rest of the details and sign up for the class. It’s limited to 22 and I know of 5 spots taken already. Ken Blanchard #420, Mike Farr# 513, and three family members. Sign up soon to secure your spot and join with fellow RIMS members for a weekend of fun.  http://www.mudhole.com/Learn-Rod-Building/Introduction-to-Rod-Building-Class-Hartford
