Why Al Zumwalt. Why a Tournament.

Al, a RIMS member from the early 1970’s until his passing in 1992, was a deeply devoted fisherman.  It was not uncommon for him to fish a 6 hour tide from beginning to end without stopping.  Al was an avid surf fisherman, he never fished from a boat, which is why this tournament is a surf fishing only tournament.  Al devoted his heart and sole to RIMS and surf fishing at Quonnie.  Al was a well liked and respected member who would share his wealth of surf fishing knowledge to anyone who asked or just happened to be fishing next to him. In 1992 RIMS dedicated this fishing tournament in his name.
